Fantasy Football Question of the Day 8/7

Starting July 25 until August 26 my friends Uly Velez, Josh Bede, and I will ask each other one fantasy football related question a day and give our individual answers to it. Feel free to check out my other fantasy football related posts on my blog, including questions from previous days. And if you have a question you would like us to answer just leave a comment below.

What is your biggest pet peeve in fantasy football?

Charles:
I talked about this in a previous blog post titled "Some Fantasy Football League Ideas", and if you know me well it's the one thing I'm most adamant about when it comes to fantasy football: Trade Vetoes by league vote. Can you imagine if in the NFL every trade that a team made was put up for a league vote by the rest of the team owners? Don't you think that so many of the Patriots' trades would get vetoed? Owners would say "I don't want the trade to go through because it would make the Patriots too good", or "That trade is too lopsided." Sounds a bit silly right? So then why is that a thing in fantasy football leagues?! There is nothing that drives me crazier than when a completely legitimate and fair trade gets vetoed by the rest of the league because of those reasons I mentioned, or something even more stupid. The only reason a trade should ever be vetoed is if it's clear and evident that there is collusion involved, and that's something that can be decided on by the Commissioner. Every league should have their league set to where trades are reviewed by the commissioner instead of league vote. Another big benefit of having your league set this way is the time frame that trades get processed. When you have it set to league vote the trade usually takes 1 or 2 days to go through, and I find that so unnecessary. If you have it ruled by the Commissioner he/she can put the trade through almost immediately. Teams have the luxury of making trades all the way to Sunday morning right before the games start instead of trying to get a trade done days before to make sure it gets processed in time for the games. So if you're in a fantasy football league, switch your settings so that all trades are reviewed by the Commissioner instead of league vote. And even if it's not up to you to change it, don't be a petty jerk and veto trades unless you know there's collusion between the trading parties. Let all owners manage their own teams, even if it's poorly. Trade negotiating is an art form in itself, and you should be rewarded for pulling off a good trade, not penalized.

Josh:
My biggest pet peeve in fantasy is inattentive owners. In 2017 where everyone has a phone there's no excuse to letting your fantasy team go unnoticed. Owners that take days to respond to trade offers is inexcusable when I know you get an alert on your phone. Owners with invalid lineups giving away free wins drive me nuts and that's why an idiot tax is a must for leagues. If you don't want to pay attention to your league but you love drafting then let me introduce you to "Best Ball" leagues now so you can leave season long leagues. Lastly, owners that try to send you obvious and crazy one sided trade deals have a special place of hate in my heart. I can normally understand the reasoning in most trades, especially in keeper leagues, but Rob Kelly and Allen Hurns for OBJ isn't going to happen so please leave! I am getting mad just writing this!

Uly:
Kickers and Team Defenses are my pet peeves in fantasy. There is no real skill in taking a kicker or a team defense and having them as part of your fantasy football league lineups. Implementing IDPs ensures that there is skill in choosing your entire roster and not just your offensive players. It also keeps you invested in both offense and defense for teams throughout the league, not just score watching one game because you have that team defense. If people are reluctant to implement IDPs then just add another flex and rid yourself of the two skill-less positions in Kickers and Defenses.
